Senior Java Software Developer
Location: Newcastle
Salary range: £49,000 – £70,000
A large insurance company are currently looking for a Senior Java Developer to join their growing team in Newcastle.
You will be responsible for managing the allocation of planned technical tasks across a team of software developers, ensuring solutions are designed, developed and unit tested in accordance with internal standards and industry best practices. There is also an opportunity to mentor more junior members of the team.
Responsibilities
Actively collaborate with business analysts, solution architects, subject matter experts and testers to ensure functional and architectural designs are agreed and understood by the developers in their team.
Lead application design workshops to ensure functional and architectural designs are broken down into technical tasks with accurate estimates.
Monitor progress daily and ensure the software development team remain focused and on track - resolving technical impediments and escalating to the Development Manager where necessary.
Promote good team practices, ensuring compliance to ITB and industry coding standards for all aspects of software development.
Report issues that will add to technical debt to the Development Manager with estimates and options for resolution.
Provide coaching and mentoring to members of the development team as necessary.
Knowledge and Experience
Educated to degree standard and/or professional qualifications, in a relevant IT-related discipline.
Minimum of 2 years’ proven experience of leading and mentoring Software Developers, with a track record of improving development practices.
Minimum of 5 years’ proven commercial software development experience.
