Communications Manager

About the role

A science village in Newcastle upon Tyne are looking for a Communications Manager to join their team. 

Role

Devise and deliver a communications strategy that supports their charitable purpose, increases brand awareness and audience engagement, and, crucially, increases footfall. Work effectively with the wider team and collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager to create synergistic, impactful campaigns. Be a proactive, imaginative, and creative member of the team - contributing to short-and long-term plans and goals of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communications plans for all audiences (including families and schools; funders; sponsors and other stakeholders) and campaigns that maximise income opportunities.

  • Devise key messages for all activities and audiences to ensure consistency of tone and voice across all marketing and communications activity.

  • Research, plan and implement an annual plan of corporate communications activity - to include regular e-newsletter from the chief executive; an annual review; creative and impactful social media campaigns and media relations.

  • Manage launches and events as required.

  • Create and implement communication campaigns to maximise income through box office (including membership), food and beverage and ancillary sales.

  • Forge new and nurture existing relationships with appropriate external individuals and organisations (including media).

  • Monitor national and specialist media to maintain awareness of current issues in the field of science communication, education and research.

Requirements

  • 2 - 5 years working in a similar communications/ marketing role

  • Experience developing and implementing a communications strategy and across multiple channels.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in copywriting for various audiences.

  • Experience and knowledge of media relations and a proven track record in imaginative content creation and placement.
