Director of People & Organisational Development

About the role

Gateshead College

Director of People and Organisational Development (OD)

Salary: £75k - £85k

At Gateshead College we promise to give students the Employment Edge. An industry inspired education designed to give them the qualifications, skills and the mindset that will set them apart in the jobs market and on track for a successful career.

Our strong employer network ensures that the college’s curriculum is clearly linked to regional priorities offering a wide range of programmes for school leavers and adults including study programmes, T Levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships and a small higher education offer. The college has a reputation for customising training to meet the specific needs of its community including the large Jewish Community and a nationally award-winning Architectural Engineering Apprenticeship programme.

With a turnover of circa £30m, the college is based across four high quality campuses and is continuously amongst the top performing colleges in the country in terms of student achievement. We have a strong and positive culture which values staff and have been awarded two HRH Princess Royal Training Awards for our work on mental health and coaching.

In order to deliver our aspirational plans, we want to attract, retain and develop a workforce of the highest calibre and fundamental to this will be an impactful, forward-looking Director or People & Organisational Development. Reporting to the Principal & CEO and working closely with the Executive team, the new postholder will create and drive HR policies and initiatives, build employee engagement in support of our strategic plan and champion a culture of aspiration and collaboration.

Key to this role will be to nurture an environment where individuals can flourish, where talent is identified and developed to its fullest potential, and where performance measures support progression and reward. You will develop impactful attraction strategies which will continue to position the College as an employer of choice. Leading a highly motivated HR team and acting as a key business driver, you will provide guidance and effective support to the senior leadership team and line managers on strategic and operational HR matters.

Our successful candidate should be CIPD qualified with substantial HR leadership experience within a complex environment. A proactive driver of change, you will have a successful track record of organisational development, devising and embedding effective strategies which positively impact the success of a whole organisation. You should also have the ability to motivate and inspire a large, diverse workforce as well as developing managers and leaders to support their teams.

Closing date for applications - Friday 19th August, 5:00pm
