About the role
The High Net Worth (HNW) Team Leader is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and commercial performance of the HNW Insurance team. The role ensures the delivery of exceptional client service standards to affluent and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, while achieving sustainable revenue growth, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
The postholder will provide technical oversight on complex risks, cultivate key insurer and introducer relationships, and drive a high-performance culture aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Key Accountabilities
1. Strategic Leadership
Lead and execute the strategic direction of the HNW division in alignment with wider corporate objectives.
Translate business plans into measurable team objectives and deliverables.
Identify opportunities for growth, market expansion, and service enhancement.
Contribute to senior management discussions regarding private client strategy.
2. Team Management & Development
Provide clear leadership, direction, and performance management to direct reports.
Establish and monitor KPIs, revenue targets, and service standards.
Conduct structured performance reviews, coaching, and succession planning.
Ensure technical competency and ongoing professional development within the team.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
3. Client Portfolio Oversight
Maintain oversight of complex and high-value client portfolios.
Provide technical support and guidance on unusual or sophisticated risk placements.
Manage relationships with key and strategically important clients.
Ensure delivery of a bespoke, discreet, and service-led client experience.
Oversee resolution of escalated client matters in a timely and professional manner.
4. Business Development & Revenue Growth
Drive new business generation within the HNW and UHNW segments.
Develop and maintain introducer relationships (e.g., private banks, wealth managers, legal and tax advisers).
Support cross-selling initiatives across the broader business.
Oversee renewal strategy to maximise retention, margin, and client lifetime value.
Monitor revenue performance and pipeline activity against agreed targets.
5. Technical Excellence & Market Engagement
Maintain advanced knowledge of HNW insurance products including high-value residential risks, fine art, jewellery, marine, aviation, specialist motor, and global travel policies.
Maintain strong relationships with specialist insurers and underwriters.
Negotiate complex placements and bespoke policy wordings.
Monitor market conditions, underwriting appetite, and emerging risk trends.
6. Governance & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance frameworks (e.g., FCA regulations where applicable).
Maintain accurate documentation, audit trails, and risk controls.
Ensure adherence to Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles and Consumer Duty obligations.
Support internal and external audits as required.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential
Significant experience within High Net Worth or Private Client insurance.
Demonstrable leadership experience within an insurance broking or advisory environment.
Strong technical expertise in complex risk placement.
Proven track record of revenue generation and portfolio growth.
Comprehensive understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks.
Desirable
ACII qualification (or progress toward completion).
Experience managing Ultra High Net Worth portfolios.
Established network of HNW introducers and insurer contacts.
