About the role
Chief Executive -NRCPD
National - Salary between £50,000 and £60,000 (depending on experience)
The Board of NRCPD are seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to take the charity into its next stage of development. In this unique and highly rewarding role, you will be asked to provide inspirational team leadership alongside delivering the organisational strategy which has the d/Deaf and DeafBlind community continually at its heart.
Founded in 2009, the NRCPD (National Registers of Communication Professionals Working with Deaf and Deafblind People) holds charity status and is the principal UK registration body and voluntary regulator of language service professionals working with d/Deaf and deafblind people in the UK.
Our primary purpose is to protect Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and maintain public confidence in language services across the UK. To achieve this, we register language service professionals and set the minimum standards for them, investigate complaints about their fitness to practise, and work to ensure the quality of language services nationally.
We currently have over 1,700 registered language service professionals covering British Sign Language/English Interpreters and Translators, Lipspeakers, Notetakers, Speech to Text Reporters and Interpreters for Deafblind People.
Our new Chief Executive will be asked to join our highly committed and successful team at a really exciting time. Alongside increasing awareness generally, in April 2022 the British Sign Language Act received Royal Assent, instantly transforming the potential for much greater recognition and understanding of BSL, and inclusion and equality for BSL users.
Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the role will be central in developing and maintaining the NRCPD's suite of professional services and ethical guidance for each profession. The role encompasses influencing national stakeholders, our strategic direction and practice within the key areas of research, awarding bodies, professional development and pre- and post- registration education and training.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional leader and highly effective relationship builder; and someone who can evidence successful delivery within an expanding, regulated charity or similar national, values based organisations.
Crucially, the successful candidate will also be a passionate advocate for professional standards, the role of NRCPD and the issues facing d/Deaf* and deafblind people in the UK today.
