We are seeking a Tax Specialist with focus in VAT and corporation tax.
The role:
The Financial Control team undertakes and oversees financial control and compliance activities on behalf of the university, working with and supporting colleagues across all Faculties and Services.
The Financial Accounts and Accounts Payable Team undertakes financial accounting activities, including statutory reporting, Tax and VAT compliance and planning, banking and treasury, and accounts payable activities.

Key Duties:
VAT accounting within the University, including quarterly VAT return and preparation of VAT certificates.
Preparation and submission of international tax returns.
Supporting the Financial Accountant with aspects of monthly and annual reporting as required.
Supporting the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
The annual Corporation tax and other statutory HMRC returns.
Providing specialist advice and guidance on direct and indirect tax related issues, including international tax, liaising with external advisors where relevant.
Keeping up to date with corporation tax, VAT and international tax legislative changes and requirements as well as identification of opportunities for tax efficiencies, as appropriate, through attendance at external events and seeking advice from external taxation experts.
Providing assistance with employment tax compliance and advice in relation to global mobility.
Developing a tax strategy, involving a review of the tax aspects of the University’s overseas activity and operations.
Proactively researching potential tax compliance issues that may be relevant to the university and quantify the impact.
Supporting with the preparation and audit of the Statutory Accounts (Consolidated, University and Subsidiaries).
Working with the capital and income accountant on month end capital reporting and controls.
You will have:
A good knowledge of VAT and corporation tax matters, be up to date with the latest developments in each tax and ideally have experience of entities with partial exemption for VAT.
ATT or CTA qualified
Understanding of appropriate legislation, regulations, and code of practice, along with appreciation of the implications of non-compliance.
Good understanding of UK GAAP and technical post qualified experience.
Experienced in completing HMRC returns (such as corporation tax or VAT returns) and/or working with HMRC.
Ability to receive, understand and convey ideas and information clearly and accurately which may at times be complex, highly detailed, technical or specialist, both in written and verbal form.
