Plant and Transport Manager

Salary: £47,000 – £50,000 per annum + Car Allowance
Additional Pay: Bonus scheme, Yearly bonus
The Opportunity
A growing construction organisation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Plant and Transport Manager to lead its Plant and Transport Department. This is a senior leadership role focused on ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of all plant equipment and logistics operations.
Reporting directly to the Group Managing Director, the successful candidate will support day-to-day operations while driving departmental improvement and contributing to the wider business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and ensure compliance with the company’s Operator’s Licence and statutory transport obligations.
Oversee servicing, taxation, and maintenance of all company vehicles.
Monitor vehicle tracking and ensure appropriate allocation and records of vehicle transfers.
Liaise with external suppliers to achieve best value across transport and plant services.
Minimise reliance on external plant hire through cost monitoring and purchase analysis.
Allocate internal resources efficiently, prioritising high-value assets.
Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of equipment to sites.
Maintain accurate plant and asset registers.
Manage internal/external hire requests and oversee safe yard operations.
Prepare RAMS and deliver Toolbox Talks.
Track movement of materials and maintain auditable logistics records.
Maintain certification for fleet, lifting equipment, and fire extinguishers.
Analyse tachograph and tracker data for compliance and efficiency.
Lead transportation logistics for plant, materials, and aggregates.
Support budgeting and procurement decisions with commercial insight.
Oversee asset procurement, disposal, and invoice approvals.
Manage chain inspections and safety certifications.
Maintain flexible support for evolving operational needs.
Continuous Improvement
The Plant and Transport Manager will actively contribute to ongoing improvements in operations and service delivery by:
