About the role
A Large MSP based in Edinburgh are currently recruiting a Data centre manager to oversee operation of the Data Centre’s (DC).
The role will offer all the aspects of operating and running Data Centre and leading a team who are passionate about their roles, DC and their clients.
The DCM manages all aspects of people management and leadership of Data Centre Services (DCS), Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team members onsite.
This also includes having anatomy to develop your data centres and the teams you are managing responsible for Capex budget and the commercial development of the Data Centre.
What you will need;
Working within a demanding, mission-critical Data Centre environment.
Client-facing experience, including dealing with clients in difficult circumstances.
People Management.
Understanding of Data Centre infrastructure
Industry best practice for datacentre services
Good technical understanding of datacentre infrastructure
Understanding of the UK regulatory regime relevant to the datacentre industry particularly around H&S legislation, ISO 27001, 14000 and PCI.
Key Responsibilities:
Be a role model of the values and behaviours for your team, driving service excellence and providing support, training, and guidance alongside development plans for all team members.
Ensure that the site operates strictly in accordance with health and safety and security procedures including all relevant compliance accreditations and the environment is maintained safely for all employees, contractors, clients, and suppliers as per company procedures.
Co-ordinate, schedule and manage the resourcing of the team, including ensuring relevant shift, holiday, sickness, or other absence cover is carefully planned ensuring continuity of 24 x 7 operations.
Recommendations for site budget proposals in line with agreed procedures and operate appropriate controls to ensure that expenditure is in line with budget and authorisation processes
Manage all maintenance procedures and contracts with internally and with specialist subcontractors. Work with Regional Head of Data Centres and Supplier Management to ensure service contract reviews are negotiated to meet service requirement and best value for money
Manage and own all the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) for site, working with specialist subcontractors to ensure this is carried out on time and within budget.
Drive the highest levels of energy efficiency (PUE) and best practice within the DC Halls optimising the cooling through containment, airflow, blanking and client equipment installation. Input to the Regional Head and M&E leaders in terms of other opportunities for improvement in terms of power and cooling infrastructure etc
Follow and help improve the Service Management processes of Major Incidents, Change and Problem Management and ownership of the production of Root Cause Analysis reporting following any service events.
Ensure all team members are aware of the process to deal with any unplanned issues at site, engaging specialist subcontractors to ensure a quick return to normal operation as required.
Co-operate and work closely with team to ensure efficient and high-quality technical support and service to clients, whether this be through the ticketing system, face to face or by telephone
Host client tours onsite alongside Sales colleagues for new, prospective and existing clients.
Improve client satisfaction and prioritise the needs of the client appropriately when planning and scheduling work. Ensure thorough understanding of client contracts, obligations and service level agreements. Ensure all team members are fully aware of the importance of the client
Work with the Project Management team to understand and deliver on client requirements in a timely manner to agreed milestones
Ensure the Risk Register is maintained and up to date at all times
Maintain documentation across the site ensuring these are up to date, stored in the correct place and for the correct time period
Manage and optimise all aspects of site capacity, including space, power infrastructure and connectivity to maximise opportunities for the site
Complete a full inspection of the site each week to ensure all areas are clean and free from combustible materials and that they are operating to the standards expected by the business; ensure any breaches are dealt with as per company procedures.
