Management Accounts Assistant (12-Month Maternity Cover)
Location: Killingworth, Newcastle upon Tyne
Contract: Full-Time (39.5 hours/week), 12-Month Fixed Term
Salary: £29,000 – £32,000 (DOE) | Flexibility available for the right candidate

Are you an experienced accounts professional looking for your next opportunity? We’re seeking a Management Accounts Assistant to join our friendly team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is a hands-on role that covers a wide range of accounting duties, ideal for someone who has a solid understanding of accounting principles and month-end processes.

Working Hours

You’ll work Monday to Friday (39.5 hours/week) with a 1-hour lunch break each day. We offer flexibility in your working hours:

  • Option 1: 7:30am – 4:30pm (Mon–Thu), 7:30am – 4:00pm (Fri)

  • Option 2: 8:00am – 5:00pm (Mon–Thu), 8:00am – 4:30pm (Fri)

    We’re also open to discussing flexible arrangements, including adjusted start/finish times or working reduced days per week.

    Please note: this role is fully office-based.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with monthly management accounts, including:

    • Posting journals

    • Balance sheet reconciliations

    • Overhead analysis

  • Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns

  • Managing monthly CIS returns and payments

  • Processing PAYE and payroll (weekly & monthly)

  • Monitoring sales and purchase ledgers

  • Performing bank and credit card reconciliations

  • Preparing weekly job financial reports

  • Calculating the monthly Work in Progress (WIP) report

What We’re Looking For

  • AAT Level 4 (preferred)

  • Strong Excel skills (essential)

  • Previous experience in core accounting functions such as:

    • Purchase ledger

    • Turnover tracking

    • Overhead monitoring

  • Solid exposure to month-end procedures and management accounts
