Facilities Operations Engineer

About the role

A well-known MSP based in Edinburgh are recruiting a Facilities operations Engineer to support with technical governance and maintenance of the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) infrastructure of the Data Centre. Working to ensure all pre-preventative maintenance activities across site are completed, drive standards, energy efficiency and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Assistance and Supervision of all maintenance activities cross two Data Centres including Management of the Planned Preventative maintenance schedule (PPM).

  • Responsible for the management and co-ordination of professional 3rd party providers to complete scheduled preventative planned maintenance, resolution of unplanned issues and routine system testing of all datacentres mechanical and electrical systems to ensure uptime of the facility.

  • Provide assistance in reviewing professional 3rd party providers performance.

  • Life cycle replacement planning activities, providing input into the life cycle planner and updating as necessary.

  • Review of site specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs) & Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs)

  • Ensure service availability and contracted service levels (SLA) are met across the data centres including attending and providing support in scheduled management meetings with clients and Management.

  • Provide input into business case documents for the upgrade/replacement of major infrastructure.

  • Provide input and details for budget planning.

  • Ensure all PPM activities are submitted for Change Approval Board (CAB) as necessary and in line with company standards.

  • Assist with infrastructure failures as required and provide assistance with any reason For Outage (RFO) or Root Cause Analysis (RCA) details.

  • Look at ways to always improve the efficiency of the data centre and provide input into life cycle replacement projects with emphasis on efficiency and sustainability.

  • Assist the Line Manger and Provide support relating to health and safety, ISO, PCI and other site audits.

Experience needed for role;

  • Maintenance experience, preferably in the IT sector and the data centre environment

  • Experience in at least one of the following:

  • LV Switching

  • HVAC Systems

  • UPS Systems

  • Generators

  • BMS Systems

  • Fire Detection and Suppression Systems

Additional Responsibilities:

  • The role may require Monday to Sunday out of hours and on call working where necessary on a best endeavours basis.
