Network Team Leader

About the role

A well-known IT consultancy based in Edinburgh are looking to recruit a Network Infrastructure Projects Team Lead to modernise the core network infrastructure to meet both the growth targets and product change, a focused networks project team is being formed to lead this change.

The team will be led by a Network Projects Team Lead who will have the opportunity build and manage a team to design and deliver a rolling programme of capital network projects.

The primary value of the role is to coordinate and manage the resource, time, budget, and scope of a project to ensure that it is delivered in line with requirement and expectation. The Network Projects Team Lead will report to the Network Infrastructure Manager but working collaboratively across teams and gain significant exposure and experience working with members of the SLT and ELT as key stakeholders of the changes.

  • Build your own team developing a high performing Network Projects Team.

  • Responsibility for the outputs and outcomes of the Network Projects. Network capital project spend circa £1.5m pa over the next 3 years as the Network architecture is transformed.

  • Coach, mentor and develop the Network Projects Team to develop as a team and as individuals. Team size of 5-10 with a mix of permanent, contract and supplier resource.

  • Manage team resources to balance project requirement/deadline and team skills.

  • Manage the design and execution of the 3-year rolling Network projects programme.

  • Work with the team to identify options to meet requirements and present recommendations for investment/projects.

  • Work with stakeholders across the business to ensure operational & technical fit of the programmes of work.

  • Provide input to annual Capital Project Budget process from a Network perspective.

  • Work with the Network Infrastructure Manager to present individual network project proposals/investments to the Director of Infrastructure & Cloud Operations.

  • Provide input to the development of the individual project business cases.

  • Agree templates/standards and quality assure key deliverables from each project e.g., High Level design, low level design, migration plans, schedule of events etc. 

  • Responsible for transition to service of network projects.

  • Drive client focused thinking within the Networks projects team to ensure that team members drive and manage changes with “client first” approaches where there is good communication and service impact minimised.

  • Provide management reports/updates for senior stakeholders on network projects progress.

Technical experience

  • 5 years+’ experience of complex and Data Centre Networks Architecture

  • Full Lifecycle Project Experience – Business case through to transition to service and lessons learned.

  • Experience of managing a portfolio of Network Projects

  • Managing risk and leading technical change

  • Experience in embedding security by design

  • Developing and executing comprehensive test plans

  • Managing a portfolio of network projects and dealing with resource conflict

  • Developing detailed project plans and monitoring performance

  • Managing stakeholders to keep involved, engaged and informed.

  • Leading the delivery of high-risk network projects in a highly available 24x7 environment.

  • Experience of leading network technical teams to deliver critical technical projects.

  • Working experience in Networking background (with reasonable large sites, multiple sites), or a similar environment

  • Strong experience with using service provider level Cisco & Juniper routing/switching/firewall equipment
