About the Role

As Financial Controller, you’ll oversee the finance, procurement, and student funding teams, ensuring sound financial management and strategic alignment. Reporting to the Vice Principal – Finance & Corporate Services, you’ll play a key role in budgeting, statutory reporting, and process improvement across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead monthly and year-end closures, management accounts, and statutory reporting.

  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and cashflow reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with public sector financial frameworks (SORP, FReM, SPFM).

  • Manage relationships with auditors, government bodies, and internal stakeholders.

  • Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and internal controls.

  • Support and advise managers on financial planning, project costing, and budget ownership.

  • Oversee student funding compliance and reporting.

Ideal Candidate

  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB-recognised body or equivalent).

  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and public sector accounting.

  • Significant post-qualification experience in a senior finance role.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams and lead cross-organisational projects.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial matters to non-finance staff.

  • Experience in education, procurement, VAT, or funding compliance (desirable but not essential).

What’s on Offer

  • Part-time hours: 17.5 hours per week, ideal for work-life balance.

  • Hybrid working: combination of remote and in-office (Galashiels) as needed.

  • Opportunity to make a strategic impact in a purpose-driven public sector organisation.

  • Collaborative and forward-thinking working culture.

If you're a strategic and hands-on finance leader looking for a meaningful part-time role, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch or apply today to find out more about this opportunity with our client.
