Roisin Currie, the People and Retail Operations Director of Greggs plc, will take the spotlight at June's virtual meet-up of ‘Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging in the North East’ to talk about Greggs' commitment to employing people in underrepresented communities, including those in prison.

The "Fresh Start" programme provides training and work experience for people from disparate and underrepresented communities who are transitioning into work. This includes training sessions for people in prisons who are nearing the end of their sentence, and providing work experience to those who demonstrate potential.

Roisin Currie

Roisin was brought up and educated in Glasgow, where she stayed to read Business Law and Business Administration at Strathclyde University. After leaving University she joined Asda and embarked on their Graduate training programme. Her first 3 years gave her a thorough grounding in operational retail roles. She then moved into various HR roles in Scotland before moving to the South West of England, where she took on the role of Divisional People Manager, looking after 70 stores.

In 2002, Roisin relocated to Leeds and took on the role of Head of Reward at Asda Head Office. After 3 years in this role, she moved on to become Retail People Director. 2 years later she became Distribution People Director.

Roisin joined Greggs as Group People Director in January 2010 and became People and Retail Operations Director in May 2017.

She was recognized on the 2018 Power List of Northern Power Women.

Roisin is a trustee on the Foundation Board and Chair of the Employers forum for reducing re-offending. Her team is very active in the training and employment of people who have been through, or are still within the prison/probation system.
