Finance Administrator (Part-Time)

Location: Office-based, Newcastle upon Tyne (UK)
Hours: Part time, 21 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Reports to: Business Unit Lead and Group CFO

About the Role

A growing life sciences business is seeking a dedicated Finance Administrator to join their team on a part-time basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic and supportive environment where your contributions will make a real impact on the organisation’s financial operations and future growth.

Reporting to the Business Unit Lead and working closely with the Group CFO and Financial Controller, you’ll be responsible for managing day-to-day financial processes, maintaining accurate records, and supporting key reporting and budgeting activities.

This is a hands-on position with great variety — ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy and wants to grow their career within a forward-thinking and expanding business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process supplier invoices and reconcile delivery notes with purchase orders.

  • Set up and maintain supplier accounts within the purchase ledger.

  • Perform monthly supplier statement reconciliations.

  • Assist in preparing purchase summaries.

  • Process business expense claims.

  • Manage cashbook and petty cash transactions.

  • Handle BACS payments and cheque preparation.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reports.

  • Develop and improve financial systems and procedures.

  • Monitor income and expenditure, producing variance analysis against budgets.

  • Collaborate with commercial teams to follow up on overdue customer invoices.

  • Support the budgeting process.

  • Manage payroll data and salary processing.

  • Collect time reports and relevant data for R&D tax credit submissions.

  • Communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

  • Analyse and manage financial risk.

About You

Qualifications:

  • AAT Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent qualification).

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven experience using finance or accounting software.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Commercial awareness with the ability to liaise effectively across departments.

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or Sage is desirable.
