About the role
We are currently looking for a Category Specialist to join our client, an award-winning, high performing, academic institution based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
As a Category Specialist, you will be responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing an operational category plan.
Setting the direction of assigned category, leading the development and implementation of the operational category plan based on market knowledge and data analysis to support strategic goals
Developing and implementing sourcing plans
Provide operational, commercial and procurement advice to key stakeholders
Run tenders and lead supplier contract negotiations
Implement effective supplier and contract management for key suppliers
Support the Head of Procurement, ensuring effective arrangements are in place for compliance with external and internal procurement regulations
Experience in developing and leading an operational category plan, including developing sourcing strategies and using market knowledge and data analysis to inform the approach and decisions
Experience leading tenders and contract negotiations, with a focus on achieving value for money and direct savings
Knowledge of current public sector procurement standards and regulations and ensuring compliance with these requirements
Experience in working in a complex (ideally matrix) organisation
