Category Specialist

About the role

We are currently looking for a Category Specialist to join our client, an award-winning, high performing, academic institution based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

As a Category Specialist, you will be responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing an operational category plan.

Responsibilities

  • Setting the direction of assigned category, leading the development and implementation of the operational category plan based on market knowledge and data analysis to support strategic goals

  • Developing and implementing sourcing plans

  • Provide operational, commercial and procurement advice to key stakeholders

  • Run tenders and lead supplier contract negotiations

  • Implement effective supplier and contract management for key suppliers

  • Support the Head of Procurement, ensuring effective arrangements are in place for compliance with external and internal procurement regulations

Experience

  • Experience in developing and leading an operational category plan, including developing sourcing strategies and using market knowledge and data analysis to inform the approach and decisions

  • Experience leading tenders and contract negotiations, with a focus on achieving value for money and direct savings

  • Knowledge of current public sector procurement standards and regulations and ensuring compliance with these requirements

  • Experience in working in a complex (ideally matrix) organisation
