We’re working with an international manufacturing client based in North Shields to recruit a Process Development Engineer on a permanent basis.
The Process Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development and introduction of new equipment and processes and take control of the equipment standards and systems throughout the site.
Working hours are Monday to Friday.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and understanding of Lean tools and be able to manage their time effectively.
Creates concepts either internally or in conjunction with machinery suppliers for new processes that support the technology strategy; commissions equipment with UK and overseas machine suppliers ensuring new equipment meets business needs
Thinks broadly and creatively to produce detailed machinery and process specifications which are aligned to new/existing product needs and/or changing requirements
Creates concepts either internally or in conjunction with machinery suppliers for new processes that support the technology strategy; commissions equipment with UK and overseas machine suppliers
Plans activities and projects well in advance and takes account of possible changing circumstances to ensure project deadlines are met
Organises resources needed to accomplish tasks; manages time effectively; sets motivating and ambitious goals and targets
Monitors performance against deadlines and milestones and initiates corrective action as needed to ensure OTD, expenditure, productivity and quality cost targets are met
Undertake feasibility studies to verify concepts and construct specifications; works independently, with internal teams and/or with equipment suppliers to deliver cost effective designs, specifications, and finished equipment
Analyse data and patterns and utilise it to effectively plan and implement improvements
Experience of working with light automated assembly processes, robotics and/or equipment for rubber/plastic manufacturing
Exposure to working with HSE requirements (PUWER) and Machinery Directives relative to equipment design (machine control / safety circuits and components / PL rating – Mechatronics background)
Electrical system design capabilities, PLC conversant (Omron, Mitsubishi, Siemens), data acquisition know how, machine control system function
Practical experience of complex data analysis using 6 Sigma, Lean tools or equivalent
Knowledge and application of equipment benchmarking and testing; proficient and practical experience of managing multiple projects including budgetary management; knowledge of IP, knowledge of VA/VE, Lean and Kaizen tools; application of FMEA

Strong knowledge and understanding of Lean tools and ways in which different departments can successfully use them
