Our client based in Blyth is excited to be recruiting for Senior Control Systems Engineer based within our clients Test & Validation directorate reporting to the Control System Engineering Manager.
To review, on an ongoing basis the status of the control systems both hardware and software based within the Blyth site and report annually on the status within each individual facility and site wide including links and interfaces with ICT run support services.
To lead in producing and delivering a development and implementation plan that addresses the future business obsolesce issues and necessary upgrading of the OREC PLC/SCADA control systems within the facilities.
To work with ICT to deliver a coordinated interface system that can be monitored and managed both centrally and remotely across site linking all facilities.
To work with the engineering and test teams to produce control systems and displays that are intuitive to work, informative and provide ease of operation.
Tailor systems to support both internal and external customer requirements when requested. Integration with DAQ systems to ensure data integrity, maintain test parameters and set alarms.
Provide training, active support and documentation to allow key personnel to operate the installed systems with confidence.
To work with the T&V team to mitigate risks in all actions and operations related to equipment and facilities.
The person will not only use their own experience but will draw upon others including external consultants to provide a feasibility study of proposals in order to validate what is the best approach.
To ensure a successful transitional implementation plan, input is required from the operational control systems, validation, Instrumentation, R&D and ICT teams.
In addition to leading the development plan supporting and being a key member of the testing & validation department operational control system team is essential to ensure that development and delivery of commercial and research projects, programmes and tests are underpinned by robust, expert and sustainable engineering processes, procedures and capability.
Skills and Experience
Educated to at least degree level in a relevant discipline
Chartered Engineer or equivalent is desirable but willing to working towards professional status would be an advantage.
Experience of working with different PLC systems – Alan Bradley, Siemens (Ladder Logic) etc and PAC system – Bachmann etc in accordance with current European standards.
Sound knowledge of electrical/mechanical generating plant and apparatus
Motivated and strong team player – working individually, and across project teams
Knowledge of and the application of good practice engineering design procedures and tools
Advanced knowledge of Functional Safety Systems and Risk Management frameworks, IEC 61508, 61511, 62061, etc.
Familiarity with advanced specialist engineering software in an inter-disciplinary project setting
Excellent interpersonal skills
Good understanding of H&S legislation
Experience of working in ISO45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 17025 environments
