Job Purpose

To plan, direct, and monitor all production activities within the assigned production area to maximise the use of the organisation’s resources and meet defined production specifications and schedules including volume, cost, scrap and H&S targets; as well as quality and lean standards. To lead the production shift team leaders for that area.

Principal Accountabilities

·Ensures that area of responsibility complies with:

  • Internal and external EHS requirements
    Relevant laws and regulations
    Labour regulations and HR guidelines
    Training and competence requirements
    Quality Management and relevant ISO procedures
    5S and HPS Standards

    Coordinates cooperation among all functions/individuals/resources involved throughout the process chain from Supplier to Customer to ensure that production flows smoothly. This includes internal Suppliers and Customers.Supports the Operations Manager in the budget planning process and is responsible for the budget in the assigned production area

    Together with the Operations Manager develops production goals and KPIs based on strategy and lead KPIs, and uses them to manage the area of responsibility

    Monitors departmental KPIs including Safety, Quality, On-time Delivery and Costs and reports KPIs to the Operations Manager.

    Forecasts the requirements of production to achieve the production targets

    Make most efficient utilisation of the available production resources

    Provides guidance to the development of a manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs

    Monitors and coordinates changes to production facilities and processes, if relevant within the framework of the given change management process.

Qualifications and Skills

·Level 6 (NQF) or above in a relevant engineering/scientific/manufacturing discipline.
·Sound knowledge of EHS
·Lean expertise e.g. green/black belt/champion or similar
·Excellent communication skills
·Experience in leading improvement workshops
·Proven leadership skills and leadership experience
