Database Administrator - Newcastle – up to £42,000
Our client is looking to recruit a Database Administrator to provide a range of DBA services across the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for availability, security, maintenance, active monitoring and performance enhancement for a number of business critical solutions and act as a DBA consultant for the rest of the business.

Main duties and responsibilities
Responsible for the creation and maintenance of all company databases required for development, testing, education and production usage.
Responsible for the design and development of scalable high availability database solutions for major business application implementations.
Plans and implements database backup and recovery strategies for business critical systems.
Performs on-going tuning of the database instances, highly complex analysis of root cause issues and troubleshooting of problems related to the databases and database infrastructure.
Responsible for the install, configure and test new versions of the RDBMS (Relational database management systems).
Control migrations of database changes through the development life cycle.
Designs, implements and enforces security for all of the company databases.
Analysis performance statistics and perform database re-organisations as required to maintain/ improve performance and ensure maximum availability of the business critical databases.
Analyses, interprets and presents highly complex technical information from various sources about complex subjects to influence key decisions.
Plan and perform database software upgrades (out of hours) ensuring minimal impact to the business.
Provides technical support and training to application development and support teams.
Responsible for managing the sharing of database resources amongst business critical applications to minimise performance issues.
Provide specialist training and advice to staff on database functionality, SQL, tuning, standards etc.
Provide out of hours and on call support for production database issues and implementations.
IT related degree plus significant Database Administrator experience at a senior level
Significant recent relevant practical experience as a Database Administrator utilising Oracle, or MS SQL Server
Significant recent Oracle/ MS SQL Server RDBMS experience with:
Backup and Recovery design and implementation
Proactive monitoring design and implementation
Software installation and patching
Experience of working with partitioned data structures
Programming skills within a database environment. The individual will have strong Unix/Linux/windows scripting language skills:

Can travel which may involve some overnight stays. From time to time, may be required to work in different locations, generally within Newcastle or Fleetwood.

Experience of Oracle Exadata configurations
Experience of administration of PostgreSQL installations
Experience of Cloud Computing database administration
Oracle 10g,11g or 12c database certification
Microsoft SQL Server certification
IT related Masters degree
