NRG continues to support the award-winning secondary school employability programme together with Esh Group
NRG, the North-East headquartered recruitment company, is proud to continue supporting Esh Group’s Added Value team with ‘Building My Skills’, a yearlong employability skills programme supporting the economic, environmental and social wellbeing of local communities.
The award-winning secondary school employability programme, now in its sixth consecutive year, provides Y9-Y13 students with a rounded introduction to the world of work through regular, timetabled business engagement.
‘Building My Skills’ is delivered at no cost to participants and has received local and national recognition, winning Business in the Community’s coveted National Big Tick for Education Partnership.
The programme continues to grow, 2016/17 has brought together over 100 Businesses and 12,000 students from 80 schools across Yorkshire, the North of England and Scotland.
Over the course of the last academic year NRG, the only recruitment organisation on the programme, supported the Added Value Team by delivering 60 minute presentations in schools across Newcastle and Sunderland, engaging 70, Y12 and 120 Y10 students and generating 1,010 business engagement learner hours.
As well as introducing students to the world of work, broadening their horizons on potential careers and raising aspirations, the NRG team help students prepare for interviews, and provide advice and guidance regarding possible career sectors, sparking interest in previously unknown professions.
The 2017/18 academic year will see NRG deliver a further five 60 minute sessions across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland focusing around the preparation of CV’s and covering letters and interview planning; engaging 560 students across years 9, 10 and 12 generating 2,968 business engagement hours.
Darush Dodds, Head of Responsible Business & Added Value at Esh Group says “Without NRG’s engagement at events, schools and session delivery, the outreaching benefits of the Building My Skills programme would not be possible.”
Julie Mordue, Client Relationship Manager at NRG adds “We are delighted to be part of the Building My Skills programme again this year which helps tomorrow’s job seekers get work ready. NRG take our Corporate Social Responsibility extremely seriously and see this award winning programme as a fantastic opportunity to engage and educate with future talent and provide independent advice on the career opportunities available within the businesses in our region.”
