Sign post for training and development at Astley Signs

Astley is a leading name in the signage industry with a turnover of £11m and a history spanning over 90 years. The company moved into its current head office in Gateshead six years ago and has office and warehousing facilities in Glasgow, Leeds and Milton Keynes.

Training and development has been instrumental in the overall business strategy of Astley since its inception; four employees in their current workforce joined as apprentices over 20 years ago.

Astley recognise that to continue to grow they needed to invest further in the next generation of signage professionals. To support this they introduced a Trainee Development Programme.

The programme, which includes a tailored in house training plan and structured mentoring support, offers training and development opportunities across the whole business including metal fabrication, plastic fabrication, electrical assembly, finance, graphic design, and installation and estimating.

The company has taken on ten trainees over the past two years and another three will start this month. Promotion of the scheme is carried out mainly via social media as the company identify that this platform is ideal for targeting the right candidates. The programme is on-going and regularly reviews applications from candidates looking to build a career with Astley throughout the year.

David Forrester, Sales Director, Astley Signs explains, “Our trainee development programme is essential to strengthen the business further and develop a strong team to drive future growth. We invest heavily in training, which is positive for us and candidates in the region. This is a proven model which has been effective for Astley for many years and brings new recruits with new ideas to our business”.

“Astley offer job security and fantastic career opportunities for people in the region. The development scheme helps to introduce inspirational new talent to the business and helps to create a platform for product innovation” Julie Mordue, Business Development Manager, NRG.
