Ambition #LikeNoOther at NRG

Therese Liddle, CEO of NRG, talks of the breadth of services we have to offer clients and the opportunities we have available for aspiring candidates to join a recruitment business that really does have ambition #LikeNoOther

Tell me about NRG?

NRG is a recruitment business headquartered in Newcastle and has been established for over 40 years, providing a niche range of recruitment services under the banner of NRG.

We have a really strong team of consultants and researchers within our Executive Search and Selection division, working across the UK on Board level appointments – and the professional services teams at NRG range from Engineering & Manufacturing, IT & Digital and Sales & Marketing to Business Support, HR&D and Accountancy and Finance. They’re working daily with candidates and clients on a range of contract, interim and permanent appointments.

Last year we launched a business called greenbean by NRG which was in answer to a gap in the market, an opportunity to provide a much more agile, client focussed service in recruitment process outsourcing (RPO).

NRG has delivered effective RPO for more than 20 years across public and private sector, but it became really apparent when talking to clients and candidates and looking at the shifts in the market that today’s organisations now need something more agile – they don’t want to be anchored to something forever. They need a partner that can come in and work on a project for them, align to their HR and Operational teams and look at innovative, creative recruitment solutions. But the main principle of greenbean by NRG is about agility and giving the client what they need at the time.

AS CEO, what are your focus areas?

My job at NRG is making sure that we deliver a brilliant service for clients – that’s first and foremost – and to do that we need to have employees that are engaged. The people that come to work here want to learn and develop, they want to be pushed and challenged, and they want to have success. When a consultant places a great candidate in a great business, it’s a big achievement! So at NRG, we focus on creating a framework for people to succeed.

What’s it like to work at NRG?

It’s challenging, it’s hard work and if you don’t like hard work we would be the wrong business for you to come and work at.

We create an environment for people to grow, we deliver brilliant service to clients and everyone that comes to work at NRG has the opportunity to talk to different businesses and meet different candidates. There will be occasions where you will be stretched and challenged, but because we’re an entrepreneurial business we don’t really have a rule book and we don’t put lids on people – so those people who want to grow, those who have ambition, talent and something about them, they can fly at NRG. There is no limit to their career here.

We have people who came here as undergraduates and have moved on right through the organisation – and there’s people who have had a great career, and then moved on to other businesses – and some of those come back! But the opportunities to grow are here for you at NRG if you want to do that.

We have fun, we’re real people, and we all have families and things outside of work that all come together in the work place – we’re a very real organisation.

Who would be a good fit for NRG?

The kind of people that might want to come and work at NRG; you might be a graduate, because many graduates are now clearly choosing recruitment as a profession and you might want to grow your own career in that way. You might be working in a customer facing organisation and you just aren’t challenged anymore – or you might be working for another recruitment business and would like to work for a business that actually sees more in you and has more ambition for you.

The people we will take on over the next 12 months will be within our professional services recruitment teams – our Accountancy & Finance division is growing and strong, our IT & Digital division has great depth and is working with national businesses. We will also add to our Executive Search & Selection and HR delivery teams if we’re able to find the right talent to do that.

There are many opportunities to come on board with NRG and I would suggest that you pick up the phone and see if we’re the right kind of business and environment for you.
