Cyber security Specialist

About the role

NRG is currently supporting a large utility business that is looking to welcome a Cyber Security Specialist into the team, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the security and integrity of clients' digital environments. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the infrastructure team to analyze threats, implement security measures, and respond to incidents, all while staying up to date with the latest cyber threats and industry best practices, with the support of your management team to create an environment to develop and grow your skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct continuous monitoring of network and system logs for suspicious activities.

  • Analyze security alerts and incidents to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Utilize security tools and technologies to detect and respond to cyber threats in real time.

  • Determine security violations and inefficiencies by conducting periodic audits.

  • Implementing a systematic and structured process for the identification and management of security risks.

  • Assist in the design and implementation of security controls and solutions.

  • Configure and maintain firewall, and intrusion detection/prevention systems, and ensure all systems are updated via an agreed schedule.

  • Work with project teams to provide security assessment & assurance activities related to new projects and/or change initiatives.

  • Participate in incident response efforts, including containment, investigation, and recovery.

  • If a breach occurs or a threat is identified, closing off the security vulnerability and developing a plan to prevent any future incidents.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining cybersecurity policies and procedures.

  • Understanding of Compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR).

  • Be comfortable carrying out security assurance activities and writing reports and recommendations.

  • Act By industry codes including (SEC - Smart Energy Code) and REC (Retail Energy Code)

  • Conduct security awareness training for employees to promote a culture of cybersecurity.

  • Stay informed about emerging threats and vulnerabilities, sharing knowledge within the team.

  • Monitoring security administrations to ensure best practices.

  • Work as an individual or as a team and where appropriate offer guidance to the wider organization

  • Review, update, and maintain the security risk assessment register.

  • Auditing key security controls, ensuring that they are fit for purpose, identifying non-conformance, and implementing corrective actions. 

  • Owning and regularly reviewing documented information relating to existing IT security controls  

  • Maintain compliance with existing Regulatory obligations within prescribed timescales, including working with external auditors.

  • Identifying and maintaining IT threat intelligence sources, supporting the business in designing effective mitigation strategies 

  • Supporting the Learning and Development Manager with training and learning initiatives to heighten security awareness across the business.

Experience you will need:

  • Security configuration of estate infrastructure

  • Use of mainstream and SMB/Enterprise Firewalls, IDS and IPS systems

  • Monitoring capacity and reliability of the systems

  • Expert knowledge of network security networks and platforms

  • Intune configuration and deployment

  • Best practice security configuration of Microsoft and Linux environment (SELinux)

  • Proven ability to work as a core team player.
