Reporting to the Senior Health and Safety Adviser/Auditor, this is a key post in the University Health and Safety Service (HSS), involving the provision of frontline health and safety (H&S) services across all areas other than those dealt with by topic specialists (bio-safety, radiation and fire). The post-holder will also play an important role in developing standards and the provision of training, as well as taking responsibility for specific elements of the HSS proactive workload.

 

This is a wide ranging, generalist H&S role requiring excellent communications and organisational skills, combines with an exemplary professional approach.

 

 

Qualifications

  • A degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject area;

  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.

 

Experience/Knowledge

  • Demonstrable up-to-date knowledge of health and safety law.

 

Skills

  • Proven ability understand and assess scientific and technical content of research risk assessments;

  • Excellent, demonstrable inter-personal skills with the ability to relate to, and engage, staff, students and others, at all levels within the University and externally;

  • Excellent, demonstrable oral communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly with staff, students, and others at all levels within the University and externally;

  • Excellent, demonstrable written communication skills, producing succinct reports to a high standard of presentation;

  • Excellent , demonstrable presentation skills;

  • Strong, demonstrable computer and keyboard skills with proficiency in using Microsoft Word, email and the internet;

  • Proven ability to demonstrate a professional and authoritative when representing the HSS and the University at all levels both internally and externally;

  • Excellent, demonstrable listening and negotiating skills; and

  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision.
