About the role


NRG is delighted to be working with one of the UK’s leading utility companies in their search for a Commercial Manager. The role of the Commercial Manager – Capital Programmes will support the effective delivery of an extensive capital programme through managing the performance of contracted delivery partners whilst protecting the commercial interests of all client commercial risks.


There is a key aim across the role to develop the commercial function and display capability through providing comprehensive subject matter expertise and guidance to stakeholders. This is a senior role within the organisation and requires a high level of senior stakeholder engagement, communication and influence to drive the best commercial outcomes.


About you


You will be managing strategic capital programmes for our client, with a specific emphasis on contractual and commercial matters such as contract negotiations, managing commercial relationships with strategic partners and advising and challenging programme boards and senior executives on commercial issues.


Experience Required

  • Proven skills in providing strategic oversight and commercial representation on the Framework Governance Group

  • Deliver outcome based KPI reporting, incentives, cost audits & remediation plans in conjunction with the Asset Investment PMO

  • Operating effectively within standard forms of contracting (NEC, JCT, FIDIC)

  • Commercial management / leadership experience in £multi-million capital programmes

  • Display relevant experience in utilities, construction, engineering or asset based industry

  • Evidence success in managing complex negotiations, contract disputes and issues

  • Engage, challenge and influence senior stakeholders (internal & external)

  • Develop strategy and lead contract disputes and interventions, engaging with internal stakeholders and external advisors.

  • In mentoring and training internal stakeholders on best practice contracts management and maintain knowledge of legal and commercial developments in construction law.
