The organisation is now seeking to recruit a Chair to the Board of Governors.

Within the College the Chair plays a very important role as strategic leader of the Board of Governors and will always promote the College's best interests.
The Chair will ensure effective governance by chairing and leading meetings which are inclusive, focused and effective.
Strong and effective relationships with the CEO/Principal and the Clerk to the Corporation are essential whilst ensuring appropriate challenge, scrutiny and oversight.
The Chair will provide support and guidance, working closely with the CEO and the Clerk in ensuring that the College is well governed and the board acts with due probity.
Successful candidates will need to demonstrate:
Experience of chairing other boards;
A successful business background with financial acumen and understanding of how this must be applied in the context of the College;
That they have held a position of strategic leadership in their career;
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills;
An alignment with the College's strong value system and appreciate the drive of the College;
Recognition of the importance of governance in a significant not for profit charitable entity;
Leadership skills with a focus on delivery and measurable outcomes – having held a position of leadership in their career;
An ability to work within the team of Gateshead College and its partners;
Previous experience in both the public and private sectors would be desirable;
Experience in the education sector is not essential but an interest and understanding of the sector will be advantageous; and
Ambition, strategic thinking and a desire to take the College on to even greater success.
The Chair will be appointed following a review of applications and interview of potential candidates. A recommendation will then be made to the Corporation, who shall appoint the Chair and determine the term of office of the Chair.
Candidates must be able to commit to no less than two days per month.
