NRG is proud to be working in partnership with an established, prestigious business in Durham on the hunt for a Qualified Finance Director to help push commerciality and drive the business forward.


Job Spec:


Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Finance Director (FD) is responsible for translating the aims and objectives of the Finance Strategy into clearly defined policies, budgets and forecasts in the areas of Financial Services, Strategic Finance, Financial Management and Reporting. As a member of the CFO Senior Leadership Team, the FD has a critical role in supporting the businesses strategic development, providing direction and oversight, and driving financial and operating performance.


The FD will provide effective leadership to the finance function, sustaining a culture of high performance and customer service with clearly articulated and agreed goals. The FD is expected to challenge the status quo in the planning and delivery of services, driving improvement and introducing new ways of working.


The FD will be a qualified accountant with experience as a business and/or commercial leader operating at senior management level. You will have excellent technical finance skills and be a confident communicator able to influence across a multifaceted organisation. You will have the capacity to think strategically and innovatively and will be adept at working in a changing and complex environment, dealing with multiple demands and priorities. You will be committed to businesses values, demonstrating an ability to balance a commercial perspective in support of the overriding mission of the company.


Person Spec:


  • Educated to Degree level

  • Qualified accountant with at least 5 years PQE experience, ideally ACA Qualified

  • You will have a demonstrable experience of leadership of diverse teams of professional staff, along with experience of leading staff within a complex organisation

  • You will also have a proven ability to lead and motivate teams to perform at consistently high levels with excellent communication skills, verbal and written

  • It is essential that you possess significant experience of providing financial advice on complex funding projects as well as having significant experience of Finance systems and financial planning

  • Experience within Change management will also enhance your application

  • Experience of a leadership position within a large organisation is also desirable.
