County Durham Housing Group was established in April 2015 following the transfer of ownership and management of Durham County Council’s former 18,500 homes and has now become a group of Registered Providers.

The group prides itself on putting tenants at the heart of what they do; making them part of the journey in providing better housing services, homes and communities.

The Brief

To meet the demand of County Durham Housing Group’s services they required a skilled and experienced leadership team in a relatively short period.

County Durham Housing Group asked NRG to support the recruitment of six key senior leadership positions.

It was important to engage with a recruitment partner who could manage the recruitment process from beginning to end and one who understood both the sector and the need for a strong executive team.

The Approach

The campaign was coordinated by the NRG Executive Search & Selection team over a period of 8 weeks.

Talent was identified from both inside and outside of the housing sector and was enhanced with a dedicated Microsite developed and hosted by NRG.

54% of candidates reaching Long-List stage were identified through “targeted search”; a key element of the NRG service. Highlighting the value of NRG’s recruitment consultancy and dedicated research capabilities.

NRG completed 76 interviews across the six roles which led to onsite interviews and psychometric testing to ensure that Durham County Housing Group found individuals who would complement and enhance the existing team.

Discussions arising through the search process were positive and encouraging with contacts from the industry showing engagement and support for this new organisation.

Jim Allcroft, Executive Consultant, NRG, comments “NRG provided search capabilities, guidance on questioning and assessment frameworks for all roles. To guarantee successful outcomes psychometric testing was completed for all candidates reaching the final stage of assessment”.

“Individuals were identified via search or proactively approached NRG. Our partnership approach was evident from the outset. One role was developed following discussion with existing management and the decision was made to split one high level role.”

Marie Roe, Group Director of Performance and Business Development, County Durham Housing Group comments “NRG has added great value to the whole recruitment process. NRG’s dedication as partner and their support throughout has led to a successful outcome for our organisation. We hope to partner with NRG for our specialist recruitment needs as our organisation continues to grow and expand.”
